Deputy Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Ms. Fristedt, and delegation visit Peking University

On June 14, 2023, Deputy Commissioner Andi Lipstein Fristedt and Deputy Commissioner Mark Abdoo of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) visited Peking University. They were received by Qiao Jie, Executive Vice President of Peking University and Dean of the Medical School, at the Lin Hu Pavilion.

Before the meeting, Fristedt and Abdoo respectively, gave presentations on the FDA's future plans and global policies. They engaged in discussions with representatives from Peking University's College of Future Technology, Institute for Global Health and Development, and other institutes on topics related to new drug development and international regulatory dynamics.

Qiao Jie welcomed the FDA delegation's visit, emphasizing Peking University's comprehensive disciplinary advantages in humanities, sciences, and medicine. She highlighted the university's focus on supporting and developing emerging disciplines and new engineering fields. She expressed hope for strengthened cooperation between the two sides in the regulation of biopharmaceuticals and medical devices, gradually expanding collaboration in medical and pharmaceutical talent cultivation.

Fristedt, speaking on behalf of the FDA delegation, expressed gratitude to Peking University. She acknowledged Peking University's global reputation and expressed pleasure in the longstanding communication and cooperation between the FDA and Peking University. The FDA values its partnership with Peking University and hopes to solidify and strengthen the relationship through such exchanges. She expressed a desire to continue and explore collaboration in emerging fields and disciplines.

The meeting was attended by Vice Dean Wang Jiadong from the Medical School, Dean Zhou Demin from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dean Xiao Ruiping from the College of Future Technology, Director Liu Guoen from the Institute for Global Health and Development, Vice Dean Xi Jianzhong from the College of Future Technology, Professor Zheng Qiang from the College of Engineering, Professor Xie Tianyu from the College of Future Technology, and Deputy Director Zhou Manli from the Office of International Relations.
