Works of Professors Liu Guoen and Pan Yuhang from PKU’s Institute for Global Health and Development selected as “Outstanding Papers” at the 6th China Health Economics Development Forum in 2023, Professor Huang Cheng delivers the keynote speech at the conference.

The 6th China Health Economics Development Forum was held at Wuhan University on December 2, 2023. Professor Huang Cheng was invited to deliver the keynote speech at the conference. Among 105 submitted papers for the Outstanding Paper selection, two studies involving Professor Liu Guoen and Assistant Professor Pan Yuhang from Peking University's Institute for Global Health and Development were selected.

Author Biographies:

Cui Yu Jie: Associate Researcher at the School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Postdoctoral fellow in economics at Peking University's School of National Development. Dr. Cui holds a Ph.D. in science from Tsinghua University. He is engaged in health economics research including pharmaceutical and health policy evaluation, empirical analysis of smart healthcare big data, hospital management research, and economic evaluation of medical and health technologies. Dr. Cui is also the principal investigator of projects such as the National Social Science Fund Management General Project, and a core participant in key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is a reviewer for journals such as  China Economic Review ,  Health Economics ,  Social Science and Medicine .

Liu Guoen: Changjiang Distinguished Professor at Peking University's School of National Development, Director of Peking University's Institute for Global Health and Development, Member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He convenes the Chinese side of the "China-US Health Dialogue" and is a member of the Expert Advisory Committee on Medical Reform of the State Council. Professor Liu has previously taught full-time at the University of Southern California, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Peking University Guanghua School of Management. He has also served as Associate Editor of the international English academic journal  Health Economics (SCI), Associate Editor of the Chinese journal  Economic Quarterly , and Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese journal  Chinese Pharmaceutical Economics .

Huang Cheng: Professor at Peking University's Institute for Global Health and Development and a dual-appointed professor at the School of Economics. Professor Cheng previously taught at Emory University and George Washington University. He also served as the Executive Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). His research areas include health and development economics, population economics, innovation, and public policy. Professor Huang received his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in economics from Xiamen University, Peking University, and the University of Pennsylvania, respectively.

Pan Yuhang: Assistant Professor at Peking University's Institute for Global Health and Development. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Beijing Normal University in 2015 and earned his Ph.D. from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2021. Before joining Peking University, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Hong Kong. His main research areas are environmental economics, health economics, and developmental economics. Professor Pan uses causal inference (applied microeconometrics) to study the impact of environmental pollution, policy formulation, and climate change on health and social welfare. His research papers have been published in journals such as  Science ,  Journal of Environmental Economics and Management , and  Nature Sustainability .

Yao Yao: Assistant Researcher at the School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Peking University's School of National Development. Her primary research areas include health economics and development economics. She has been involved in several projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Health Commission. Yao Yao is also a reviewer for journals such as  China Economic Review ,  International Journal for Equity in Health ,  Social Science & Medicine ,  Innovation in Aging , and  Chinese Health Economics .

Wu Wanrui: Ph.D. student at Peking University's School of National Development with a research interest in health economics.

Introduction to the China Health Economics Development Forum:

The 6th China Health Economics Development Forum was held on December 2nd at Dong Fuxian Institute of Economic and Social Development at Wuhan University. The forum, themed "Innovation and Development of Health Economics and Policies," brought together experts and scholars from both domestic and international fields of health economics and healthcare management. The forum focused on academic discussions and exchanges on cutting-edge topics such as big data in healthcare, medical security and insurance, healthcare payment and outcomes, health economics, and health policies. The forum was jointly organized by the following institutions:
