Professor Huang Zhihuan from Georgetown University visits the Institute for Global Health and Development

On June 23, 2023, Professor Jennifer H. Bouey, Director of the Department of International Health at Georgetown University and Director of the RAND Center for China Policy Research, visited the Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD) at Peking University (PKU) to deliver a lecture and engage in discussions on "Building Advanced Global Health Education Programs." Professor Liu Guoen, the director of IGHD, and faculty and students from IGHD participated in the event.

Professor Bouey introduced the current development status of the Global Health Department at Georgetown University, focusing particularly on the Global Health Education Program. This program, rooted in a global perspective, emphasizes interdisciplinary fields centered around health, including epidemiology, mental health and global environment, immigrant health, health policy, and healthcare system construction and evaluation. With a rich network of global collaborations and diverse internship opportunities across different regions, the program adopts flexible and varied approaches to talent cultivation, aiming to train versatile, dynamic global health scholars who integrate knowledge with action and pursue truth pragmatically.

Furthermore, Professor Bouey also introduced the "Georgetown University US-China Global Issues Dialogue Program," which aims to explore common concerns, develop shared research agendas to inform better policies, and promote practical cooperation in bilateral and multilateral contexts.

Professor Liu Guoen introduced the mission, disciplinary focus, and developmental trajectory of IGHD. He pointed out that the goals of construction, training models, and curriculum systems of the Global Health School at Georgetown University are similar to those of IGHD at PKU. Both institutions have a solid foundation for cooperation, and he emphasized the potential for further communication and discussion on collaboration in master's and doctoral degree programs.
