Dr. Lei, a specially appointed research fellow at the PKU Institute for Global Health and Development and a clinician holds a PhD in Medical Informatics and serves as a doctoral supervisor. Founder of the Center for Medical Informatics at Peking University, with a background in interdisciplinary education and work both domestically and internationally. Graduated from West China Medical College of Sichuan University in clinical medicine, worked as a clinical doctor at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and then obtained a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Master of Art in Medical Informatics both from Columbia University in the United States, as well as a Ph.D. in BioMedical Informatics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in the United States.
Dr. Lei served as the chief editors of two national level textbooks, Introduction to Health Informatics and Bioinformatics, and the deputy chief editor of one national level textbook, Medical Information and Fundamentals of Medical Computer Science. He is the Vice Chairman of the Health Informatics Education Professional Committee of the China Health Information and Health Big Data Society, the Vice Chairman of the Tumor Information Management Professional Committee of the China Anti-Cancer Association, and the Vice Chairman of the Medical Health and Biological Information Professional Committee of the Chinese Information Society. As the Evaluation Chairman, he has presided over the Medical Natural Language Processing Evaluation Competition of the China Hospital Information Processing Conference for five consecutive years. P.I. of multiple National Natural Science Foundation projects, Beijing Natural Science Foundation, major special sub projects, and National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Innovation Team projects. Published about 100 articles in domestic and international journals including sister journals of world class journals JAMA and Nature, of which 2 SCI research papers on wearable devices ranked among the top 1% cited of global scholars in the category of "clinical medicine" (JCR "highly cited" papers globally).
Dr. Lei persists in the research direction of perfect combination of theory and practice. His main research directions include active health management in the whole life cycle based on big data, artificial intelligence, wearable devices, and the new generation of hospital management information system (HIS for Internet B/S architecture and high-quality development, electronic medical record EMR, LIS, RIS, PACS, etc.) and intelligent health care for seniors. The main research contents include: clinical information systems; Smart healthcare; Medical natural language processing; Wearable and portable devices for health purposes; And chronic disease management and precise health management based on big data.
Dr. Lei Formerly served as the President of the Chinese Students and Scholars’ Association at Columbia University in the city of New York and the President of the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars in the Greater New York Area. Founded the Chinese Medical Informatics Society in the United States, and currently serves as the Vice President of the American Alumni branch in Western Returned Scholar Association, which has a history of over a hundred years.
