Dr. Yi Yao is currently a Tenured Associate Professor in Risk Management and Insurance Department in School of Economics and the Institute for Global Health and Development, Peking University. She also serves as research fellow at China Center for Insurance and Social Security Research. Prior to joining the faculty at PKU in 2012, she earned her Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Dr. Yao has published extensively in academic journals, including Journal of Risk and Insurance, Health Economics, Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance-Issues and Practice, Economic Research Journal (in Chinese). She received “Shin Research Award” from International Insurance Society in 2012. Her research interest lies in the fields of health insurance, microinsurance and risk management.
